| We entered China after a very long wait aboard a very stuffy train parked on the Mongolian border in the Gobi Desert. After a couple of hours in the border town of xxxx we boarded our overnight "sleeper" bus to Beijing. We only had a few days in China before our plane left for Korea and we chose to spend them revisiting some of our favorite sites from our visit in 2001. We visited the Temple of Heaven and Forbidden City which were undergoing renovations in preparation for the 2008 Olympics at the time and we revisited the Great Wall, this time choosing a slightly less touristed section that required a 10k trek along the wall. We also spent an evening on a quest in Walmart Beijing to find any product made in America and another evening at Silk street shopping for anything decidedly not made in America. Far and away though, the best part of our three days in Beijing was exploring the back alleys and neighborhoods of the .... district where our hotel was located. |
